Recognizing that scholarships help cover significant costs associated with higher education, this award is designed to encourage students to pursue STEM-related fields of study by offsetting expenses related to travel, clothing, textbooks, and other expenses that become burdensome. In its first two years, the Lang-Wise STEM Scholarship Fund has awarded $31,900 in grants and scholarships.

The Patrick and Amelia Williams Opportunity Fund was established in the spring of 2018 by Junior Gaspard (native son of St. Croix) in honor of his grandparents, who, despite great odds, maintained a work ethic and standard of excellence that has gone on to impact future generations. Originally launched as a competitive scholarship program, in 2022, the Foundation’s Grants Review Committee and advisors to the Fund assessed through surveys and interviews of past candidates that sustained support for awardees is critical as federal aid decreases and coursework intensifies. As such, the Foundation’s Grants Review Committee invited past awardees to apply for this special scholarship, following them through their senior year at university.
The Fund prioritizes graduates from public high schools on the island of St. Croix. Since its inception, the Fund has granted $95,000 in scholarships, ranging from $1000 to $5000, to 17 St. Croix students pursuing degrees in nursing, the culinary arts, engineering, biology, music education, business, meteorology, and physical therapy, to name just a few.
